Edgar Allan Poe, born in Boston, Jan. 19, 1809 and died Oct. 7, 1849 in Baltimore. His parents were actors and died before he was only three. He was adopted by John Allan, a wealthy merchant. He studied at the University of Virginia for only one year, then he enlisted in the army and stayed there for five years. After his return he married his cousin (when she was not yet 14 years old!), and he started editorial work in Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia. He died under unclear circumstances in Baltimore.
