  En efecto, hacía algunas noches que todo el pueblo había podido observar un extraño fenómeno.
Entre las sombras, a lo lejos, ya subiendo las retorcidas cuestas del peñón del Segre, ya vagando entre las ruinas del castillo, ya cerniéndose al parecer en los aires, se veían correr, cruzarse, esconderse y tornar a aparecer para alejarse en distintas direcciones, unas luces misteriosas y fantásticas, cuya procedencia nadie sabía explicar.
