  only exception is medio
un medio pan= half a bread (loaf of bread)
una media manzana= half an apple

  All fractions are appended with de to the noun that is referred to
Un tercio de pan.
= a third of a bread
Un cuarto de este queso.
= a quarter of a cheese
Un quinto de lo que gana lo gasta por el alquiler.
= a fifth of what he earns he spends for rent
Ha perdido un sexto de su fortuna.
= He has lost a sixth of his fortune.
