Always there will be poetry

No digáis que agotado su tesoro,
De asuntos falta, enmudeció la lira:
Podrá no haber poetas; pero siempre
Habrá poesía.

Mientras las ondas de la luz al beso
Palpiten encendidas;
Mientras el sol las desgarradas nubes
De fuego y oro vista;

Mientras el aire en su regazo lleve
Perfumes y armonías;
Mientras haya en el mundo primavera,
¡Habrá poesía!

for lack of subjects, the lyre silenced.
There may not be poets, but always
there will be poetry!

While the waves from the kiss of light
beat inflamed;
while the sun through the torn clouds
of fire and gold is seen;

While the breeze on its lap carries
perfumes and harmonies;
while there is spring in the world,
there will be poetry!

Batallando prosigan;

While science discovering doesn't fathom the fountains of life, and in the sea or in the sky there is an abyss which resists calculation;

While Humanity, always advancing,
may not know where it's going;
while there is a mystery for man,
there will be poetry.

While we feel that the soul is happy
without the lips smiling;
while one cries without a tear hastening
to cloud the eyes;

While the heart and the head
keep battling;
while there are hopes and memories
there will be poetry!

While there are eyes that reflect
the eyes that look at them;
while sighing lips respond
to lips that sigh;

While one feels two souls
can be joined in a kiss;
while a beautiful woman exists
there will be poetry!
