Ésta fue la salutación que,
sacudiéndole el brazo violentamente,
dirigió al pobre escudero, el cual,
después de mirarle un buen espacio
de tiempo con ojos espantados y estúpidos,
le contestó con voz entrecortada
por la sorpresa:
En esta casa vive el muy honrado señor
D. Alonso de Valdecuellos, montero mayor
de nuestro señor el rey, que herido
en la guerra contra moros, se encuentra
en esta ciudad reponiéndose de sus
fatigas.
